Paper Mario is a roleplaying game for the Nintendo 64. Released in August 11th, 2000 (February 5th, 2001, in North America) it was the first and only Mario RPG for the Nintendo 64 and the first Mario RPG since Super Mario RPG (Released 5 years before in 1996). Paper Mario blended genres, although it was an RPG it had some minor platforming elements, like jumping and using abilities outside of combat to open up paths. The game starts with a scene showing the seven Star Spirits, who guard the Star Rod, a powerful object that could grant the wishes of its user. At the beginning of the game, Bowser and his assistant magikoopa, Kammy Koopa, attack and imprison the Star Spirits, then steal the Star Rod. Mario has to find and rescue all seven Star Spirits, so he can use their power to retrieve the Star Rod and bring peace back to the Mushroom Kingdom. It currently has two sequels, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario.
